Well over 100 city officials and private citizens showed up on Tuesday to the Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee to voice their opposition to SB1128 which preempts all regulation of vacation rentals to the state. The gamut of objections were presented from the destruction of neighborhoods, to safety, to increased burden on local government, to questions of the rights of residential property owners, to the inability to sell a home next to a party house. Yet in spite of only a few people supporting this legislation, the bill passed on a party line vote of 3:2.
